Terrains

Kamchatka is a unique territory for heliskiing. The skiing area is almost boundless, and one can hardly count the number of runs. The range of mountains and volcanoes stretches from the Island of Paramushir in the south to volcanoes of Shiveluch and Alney in the north for the distance of over 800 kilometers.

However the actual place for skiing is situated within a radius of 150 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.  It can be divided into several areas that are located to the north or south from our base. The heliskiing territory of Kamchatka is about 45000 sq.km. wich is as big as entire Zwitzerland!!!

Southward sector

Vilyuchinski Volcano It is situated within the range of 7-minute flight from the base on the beech of the bay with same name facing the Pacific Ocean. The form of this volcano is almost perfect that allows for skiing on the slopes along the whole perimeter of the mountain. The runs can be ideally adapted for snow conditions depending upon the time of the day. The maximum possible vertical drop is 2100 meters. Numerous slopes in adjacent fiords (up to 700 meters of vertical drop) will bring you right to the coast making your skiing day rich in unique views.

Mutnovski Volcano 15-minute flight from the base. This is a unique area for heliskiing, as you can make a run right into the crater of active volcano. On your way down you will pass a glacier, an acid lake, as well as numerous geysers and steam vents.

Goreliy Volcano, Asacha Volcano, Khodutka Volcano 15-25 minutes flight from the base. This area is like a real safari park. The travel route includes three volcanoes. There are neither steep or very long slopes here, but:

  • you will fly over the Goreliy Volcano with the lake in its crater
  • on the slopes of the Asacha Volcano you will most certainly meet bears on every run
  • finally, you will finish the day’s program with swimming in a thermal Khodutka river.

Northward sector

Koryakski Volcano, Avachinski Volcano, Kozelski Volcano, Aag Volcano, Arik Volcano

This is the group of so called “homely” volcanoes that is situated very close to the skiing lodge – within the range of 15-minute flight. Depending upon the snow and weather conditions, as well as your group’s level, you can enjoy riding on the slopes of one, several or all volcanoes of the group. It is the largest area for skiing. The maximum possible vertical drop is almost 3000 meters. You can find slopes with any type of direction, steepness and length. Avachinski and Koryakski are active volcanoes.

Zhupanovski Volcano. 30-minute flight from the base. This is one of the most distant skiing areas, yet it is worth your while. Three adherent volcanoes form gigantic mountain mass with various types of relief and vertical drops of over 2000 meters. Here we can often find runs with best fresh powder.

Bakening Volcano. Ganalskiye Ostryaki Mountain Range. This area is a perfect mix of classic mountain skiing and volcano skiing. The mountain range closed on both sides from the storms coming from the Pacific and Sea of Okhotsk is a perfect place for off-piste skiing. The ground relief is very versatile – you can find couloirs, open bowls and tree-skiing. The final run right into the thermal spring is like a wonderful dessert after good dinner.
